Myth 1: The best quality products are not made locally
We cannot speak for other industries, but the most recognised international corporations have kept a huge golden secret! What most South Africans don’t know is that most of the products sold by these corporations on the local and international markets are made right here on our doorstep by locally owned businesses.

Myth 2: The more expensive it is, the better quality it is
As Africans, we are so used to paying inflated prices that when we see a competitive price, we instinctively become sceptical and ask, “what’s the catch?.”
We understand businesses need to make a profit to survive but it is simply unacceptable what some of these corporations consider fair mark ups!
Please don’t misunderstand us and think that the cheap generic products will work just as well as the established brands, because there are plenty of inferior products that should not be in the market place at all.

Myth 3: We can get it cheaper from China
If local businesses are well run and their systems are efficient, then the cost saving in manufacturing can be passed on to the end user. If one were to compare 2 products equivalent in quality, one made locally and one made in China, then the manufacturing cost would be very similar. The advantage of the local market product is that there are no import costs. If the local sellers do not mark up the prices with ridiculously high profits, local product will be the preferred choice.

“South African Products Are Of World Class Quality!”
We have the best local material suppliers, the best local carbide suppliers, the best local heat treatment facilities, the best local affiliates and the best local manufacturers! And don’t be fooled into thinking our local businesses cannot make it on the world stage – they are competing head to head with the world’s best, and in most cases, winning!

Use this checklist to see if your suppliers are making the difference in our country (Tick if true)
___ They are 100% locally made and are willing to show you their facilities to prove it.
___ They have proven to be ethical in their business dealings by their actions, not what they say.
___ They help you analyse your costs and make decisions not just based on initial price,  but also on how much it will cost you in the long run.

The 7 critical factors you need to know when purchasing rock drill bits for maximum efficiency and value

1.       The correct raw material metallurgy

1.1.    There is a specific material that has been designed and processed for the rock drill bit industry.

1.2.    This is a closely guarded secret that all the top quality bits have in common.

1.3.    Only a handful of companies know the correct metallurgy for the best possible product.

2.       The correct carbide makeup

2.1.    Carbide is a mixture of tungsten and cobalt. The correct ratios are critical to the performance and longevity of the bit.

2.2.    The shape of the carbide will determine whether the product drills deeper or faster. The perfect shape balances both.

3.       The best method of manipulating the raw material into the final shape

3.1.    The best quality manufacturers in the world have tried every known method, but continuously revert
to one specific method, which continues to outperform all others.

3.2.    Why would you want these other methods tested with your money?

4.       The design specifications and attributes require the most attentive research and development

4.1.    Every attribute and tolerance of a rock drill bit should be aimed at increasing performance and consistency.

4.2.    The smallest, disregarded element could mean premature bit failure.

5.       The carbide button holes need micron precision

5.1.    This requires specialised machinery, tools and knowledge.

6.       The insertion of the carbide into the body is a highly critical factor of bit performance and longevity

6.1.    It is very easy for the quality to be compromised at this point if the exact knowledge and procedures are not strictly adhered to.

7.       All this means nothing, if you as the client cannot extract value from the product

7.1.    There are some products that drill to good depths, but they come with a hefty price tag.

7.2.    There are many products that are cheap but do not drill to even 50% depth of the above products.

7.3.    Then there is the minority group, who drills to maximum depths, but without the hefty price
tags.

7.3.1. They use state of the art processes like robotics that minimise escalating costs.

7.3.2. They only employ people at the top of their fields so they get the job done faster, with better quality, by fewer
people, instead of having large numbers of staff make up the shortfalls in knowledge and ability which costs you more money!

7.3.3. They pass the savings to their clients and are always willing to give back to their clients, their communities
and their country.
